These Air Fryer chickpeas make a tasty and healthy snack! They’re spicy, crunchy, vegan, gluten-free, and packed with plant protein. Enjoy them as a snack, in buddha bowls, top your salads, sandwiches, or even soups!
Roasting chickpeas in the Air Fryer just much quicker than in the oven, and the result is crunchier chickpeas!
I love chickpeas! I eat all the time in different dishes, and believe it or not, but I seem to always have soaked chickpeas in my kitchen waiting to be cooked!
How Long Can I Soak Chickpeas For?
Normally, dried chickpeas are soaked overnight and then cooked on the next day. Soaking legumes before cooking them, makes them easier to digest. There is no problem in soaking chickpeas for more than just one day, especially in cold weather. And you know, plans change, and sometimes we don’t end up cooking chickpeas on the next day as planned. So just change the water, and pop them in the fridge for one more day or 2 and you should be fine!
Delicious Chickpea Recipes
There are so many tasty dishes that you can make with chickpeas, and I only have a few on my blog:
- Classic hummus – this is the authentic hummus recipe, it’s so simple, and definitely the best hummus recipe that you will ever find! I can guarantee that!
- Beet hummus, pumpkin hummus, and avocado hummus. Which one is my favorite? I love all of them!
- Curries – This eggplant and chickpea curry is honestly the best! I also love this chickpea and potato curry.
- Falafel – did you know that the humble falafel is made with chickpeas that are ground, and canned chickpeas do not work? Check out my recipe! You can also make falafel burgers, and they’re just sooo good!
- Fesenjan – this Persian walnut stew with pomegranate and chickpeas is just amazing!
Air Fryer Chickpeas
As you can see, there are so many things that you can make with chickpeas. And Air Fryer chickpeas is my current favorite snack that I make all the time. And even before getting an Air Fryer I used to make crispy chickpeas in the oven, but I found that roasting chickpeas in the Air Fryer makes sure that every single chickpea is perfectly crunchy and nice!
It makes a great snack, and also perfect for soups (check out my roasted rutabaga soup and see how I topped it with crispy chickpeas). I also like to top my salads with these chickpeas, my avocado on toast, or just eat them on their own as a healthy snack instead of snacking on a pack of chips.
Air Fryer Chickpeas Ingredients
- Chickpeas – either a can of cooked chickpeas or soak and cook dried chickpeas.
- Olive oil.
- Your favorite seasonings – I use smoked paprika, chili powder, turmeric, salt. and pepper.
How to Cook Chickpeas in the Air Fryer
- Preheat the Air Fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium-sized bowl, toss the chickpeas with olive oil, paprika, cumin, turmeric, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
- Place the chickpeas in the Air Fryer basket, and cook for 10 minutes shaking halfway through.
- The chickpeas are done when they’re crunchy and no longer moist.
- Allow to cool, and eat at room temperature.
I like my chickpeas pretty crispy, so I tend to cook them for a bit longer until they start to crack slightly and then I remove them from the Air Fryer to cool down before consuming or storing.
I suggest that you roast them for 15 minutes, and then check and see if you would like to cook them for a couple of minutes more.
Top Tips
- This is the Air Fryer that I own and love!
- If you’re using canned chickpeas, then drain them well for crunchier chickpeas. You can rinse them if you like, use a colander to do that.
- Shake the Air Fryer basket every 5 minutes for better results.
- The longer you cook the chickpeas for, the crunchier they will be but be careful not to burn them.
- Feel free to change things up a little, and add different seasonings such as sweet paprika, curry powder, garlic powder, onion powder, herbs, etc.
- This air fryer magnetic cheat sheet is very handy, it contains cooking time and temperature to cook 66 most common ingredients which I find very useful.
- I also really like these air fryer parchment liners, they’re not just for steaming and you can use them for cooking things like these chickpeas, or fries, or chicken without worrying that the food will stick to the basket. They’re also quite cheap and there are 100 pcs in a package.
How to Store These Air Fryer Chickpeas?
I store the chickpeas in glass jars at room temperature, with the lids off (no lid!) for up to a week. I found that if you cover with the lid, they lose the crunch and become soft.

These are wonderful and such a treat. The spice blend is very good but personally I will try a bit less salt the next time. Definitely a keeper!!
