Fail proof Instant Pot brown rice recipe to ensure that your rice turns out perfect every single time! No more mushy, or chewy rice.
I love rice, It’s a staple in our kitchen and we serve rice with most of our meals! It’s always either potatoes, long grain rice, or brown rice. I think that brown rice is very different when compared to white rice, I mean, the texture, the taste, everything is so different! And obviously, the way it cooks is also different.
Brown rice is healthier though. It has more fiber, protein, and nutrients than white rice, but remember that it contains more calories than white!
Anyway, let’s jump into the recipe!
Do I Need to Soak the Rice Before Cooking It in the Instant Pot?
No, you don’t! However, make sure that you rinse it under running water until the water runs clear to avoid getting mushy rice. I do that in my colander (see picture below) that I find very convenient for things like rice, lentils, and beans.
How to Cook Brown Rice in the Instant Pot?
- Rinse and drain the rice in a colander, and it’s ready to go in the Instant Pot.
- Add 1 tsp of vegetable oil just to grease the bottom of the pot. This will prevent any rice from sticking to the bottom.
- Cover with water. The ratio is 1:1 rice to water.
- Add a pinch of salt, quickly stir the rice.
- Cover with the lid.
- Press on MANUAL or PRESSURE COOK on high, and set the timer at 25 minutes.
- Allow the Instant Pot to come to pressure (it will take about 10 minutes) and cook for 25 minutes, then naturally release the steam.
- Fluff with a fork, and serve.
Storing Tips
Cooked rice can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Recipe Tips
- Always rinse the rice with cold water! Do not skip this step to avoid getting mushy rice.
- The ratio of rice to liquid in the Instant Pot is always 1:1.
- If using a 6 quart IP, make a minimum of 1 cup of rice. If you’re using 8 quart IP, then make a minimum of 1.5 cups of rice.
- You can use vegetable stock instead of water for extra flavor.
