Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- It’s SO good: Honestly, these might be my favorite little sandwiches ever! The flavors are just so balanced and perfect.
- Sheet Pan Meal: Making sandwiches on a sheet tray in the oven means that there are minimal dishes to wash. On game day I hate to be in the kitchen, so a dish like this one is perfect.
- Ready Fast: Start to finish this recipe takes about 30 minutes, making ham and cheese sliders a perfect weeknight dinner recipe.
Key Ingredients
Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
- Butter: The tops of these sandwiches will be brushed with a deliciously seasoned butter sauce. Start with unsalted butter that’s been melted.
- Dijon Mustard: This savory spread goes perfectly with ham and swiss.
- Honey: A bit of sweetness helps to balance out the savory flavors in the sauce and enhance the sweetness of the Hawaiian rolls.
- Poppy Seeds: I love the bit of crunch that these seeds add. Use Everything Bagel Seasoning if you have it instead.
- Garlic Powder, Dried Onion, and Worcestershire Sauce: Keep adding layers of flavor to your butter sauce.
- Sweet Hawaiian Rolls: If you ever needed an excuse to buy a package of King’s Hawaiian rolls, this is it! They are soft and small; perfect for sliders.
- Deli Ham and Sliced Swiss Cheese: Get your deli meat and cheese sliced thinly for making these ham and cheese sliders.
Tip!
If you want to use Everything Bagel Seasoning, omit the poppy seeds, garlic powder, and onion from the recipe.
How to Make Hot Ham and Cheese Sliders
Hot ham and cheese sliders are so easy to make!
- Get Ready: Preheat the oven to 350°F/180°C, and grease a 9×9 or 7×11 inch baking pan/sheet. You can also use a 9×13 baking dish. Whatever pan you have that fits the rolls will be perfect.
- Mix the butter: In s small bowl, combine melted butter, Dijon mustard, honey, poppy seeds, minced dried onion, dried garlic, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Make the sandwiches: Slice the rolls in half using a serrated knife to separate the tops from the bottoms. Leave the individual pieces stuck together as much as you can. On the bottom of the rolls, layer half of the ham, all of the cheese, and then the remaining ham. Cover with the top of the rolls.
- Brush and Bake: Brush the butter mixture over the tops of the sandwiches. Cover the pan with foil and bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil, and bake uncovered for 10 more minutes until done. They should be golden brown. Slice and serve.
Tip!
Keep an eye on your sliders at the end of the cooking time so that they don’t burn.
Recipe Tips
- Not a ham fan? Make these with thinly sliced turkey or deli-style chicken instead.
- Switch up the cheese. Swiss is a classic flavor, but you can try mozzarella, provolone, American, or cheddar cheese instead.
- Unsalted Butter: I like to avoid adding salt to the butter mixture because I like more of the sweet and savory flavors to come through. If you want, you can use salted butter or add a pinch of salt to the butter mixture, but it’s not necessary. The ham adds the right amount of saltiness to this recipe.
- Use a Serrated Knife: Hawaiian rolls are very soft, so a regular straight knife will crush them. A serrated knife does the best job of slicing through them easily.
- Another trick for easily slicing Hawaiian rolls: Place them in the freezer for about 15 minutes. They will firm up a bit and slice super easily.
- Can’t find Hawaiian Rolls? Try using soft packaged dinner rolls instead.
What to Serve With Hot Ham and Cheese Sliders

Make The Kids Happy: Sliders are the perfect kid-friendly meal. Serve up some Chocolate Cupcakes or Soft Monster Cookies for dessert.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, you can! Simply assemble the sandwiches in the greased pan, cover, and refrigerate until ready to cook. You can do this up to a day ahead of time. When you want to bake the sliders, make the butter sauce and continue the recipe as written.
These Hawaiian roll sliders are best eaten hot or warm, but they are very good cold too! If you have leftovers, enjoy them right from the fridge, or reheat them in the oven wrapped in foil for about 10 minutes.
The poppy seeds add a great little bit of crunch to these sliders, but you can leave them out. They will still taste amazing without seeds. You can try using sesame seeds instead of poppy seeds too.
Simply double all of the ingredients and make them in two pans or on one large sheet tray. This recipe is super simple to double, triple, or even quadruple to feed a crowd.
Whether you make these ham and cheese sliders for the big game or enjoy them as a simple dinner, I know you’re going to love them! Save this recipe to make again.
