Need a quick and delicious appetizer or snack? Make easy Ham and Cheese Roll Ups! Sometimes called ham and cheese pinwheels, these cold appetizers are made with 5 simple ingredients and are packed with flavor thanks to cream cheese spiked with ranch seasoning.

Stacked ham and cheese pinwheels, served on a white plate.

Ham cream cheese roll ups make the best appetizer. Not only are they easy to make, but you can make a lot of them with just a few dollars worth of ingredients. This is also a cold appetizer recipe, so it’s great for any time of the year.

Chances are good that you already have all or most of the ingredients in your fridge. Shredded cheese, cream cheese, ham, and tortillas are the basics, and then we’re adding ranch seasoning to make them extra delicious.

These ham and cheese roll-ups make a great snack! Pack them in lunchboxes for a special treat that kids or adults will enjoy.

Key Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make ham and cheese pinwheels
  • Cream Cheese and Shredded Cheddar Cheese: Together, these create a creamy, tangy, flavorful base to the roll ups. Be sure to let the cream cheese soften at room temperature.
  • Ranch Seasoning: Add one packet of ranch seasoning to the cream cheese for tons of salty, savory flavor. You can make your own ranch seasoning using this recipe! One packet of ranch seasoning is 2 tablespoons.
  • Ham: Deli sliced ham is perfect for this recipe. You can have it sliced fresh or buy your favorite packaged ham. Chop the ham into ½ inch pieces.
  • Tortillas: Large (8-inch) flour tortillas hold everything together in these roll up appetizers. Try low-carb wraps or whole wheat if you like. I’m using regular flour tortillas here.

How to Make Ham and Cheese Roll Ups

Collage of four images showing steps how to make ham and cheese roll ups
  1. Mix the Filling: In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese with ranch seasoning and cheddar cheese.
  2. Roll Tortillas: Divide the mixture between 5 tortillas, spreading it to the edges. Sprinkle with 1/5th of the chopped ham. Roll each tortilla up tightly. Wrap each roll with plastic wrap and chill for 1-2 hours.
  3. Make Pinwheels: When ready to serve, slice the ham and cheese rolls into ½ inch rounds or pinwheels.

Ham and Cheese Roll Ups Variations

These simple appetizers are so good, but you can add things to them to make them just how you want them.

  • Add Veggies: Fresh vegetables diced finely will add color and flavor to your ranch cream cheese. Try cucumbers, carrots, or broccoli.
  • Switch the Cheese: Swiss cheese is always tasty with ham. You could try mozzarella or colby jack too. Really, any type of shredded cheese you have in the fridge will probably taste great.
  • Try Pickles: Diced dill pickles or sliced green olives are a tasty addition to ham and cheese pinwheels. Be sure to dry them on paper towels so that things don’t get soggy.

More Party Foods to Make

You are in the right place if you’re looking for the best appetizers to take to a party. See all of my appetizer recipes, or start with one of these:

Sweet Treats: Fruit Pizza is a dessert and an appetizer that everyone loves, and so is Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Chips.

Hot Dips: Make a few of these for game day or a party and be sure to have lots of chips and crackers on hand. Cheesy Hot Crab Dip, Instant Pot Spinach Artichoke Dip, and Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Dip are favorites here.

Finger Foods: Make these bites that people can grab: Cheeseburger Sliders, Pizza Sliders, Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms, or Baked Potato Skins.

FAQs

Do I bake these?

This recipe is not meant to be baked, it’s actually best enjoyed cold, right from the refrigerator.

Can I make pinwheels the day before?

You can make these the day before. I suggest waiting to slice the rolled tortillas into pinwheels until just before serving though.

Can I use sliced cheese instead of shredded?

Yes. Instead of adding the cheese to the cream cheese, layer slices on top of the ham before rolling up the tortillas.

Happy Partying! I love party foods that are as simple as Ham and Cheese Pinwheels, and I know you will love this recipe too.
