Taco dip is always a hit at a party, but if it’s spooky season, you are going to want to make this Halloween taco dip, with easy spiderweb decorations.

Layers of refried beans, taco seasoned cream cheese, and guacamole are easy to put together, and shredded cheese and fresh veggies complete the dish to make every bite delicious and packed with taco flavor.

If you’re having a party this fall, serve some festive drinks too! Apple Cider margaritas are a seasonal favorite.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  1. No Cooking Required – This dish uses already prepared beans and guacamole, so it comes together without ever turning on the stove.
  2. A Vegetarian Taco Dip – This layered dip is made without meat, although you could add some if you wanted.
  3. Easy Halloween Themed Dip – If you can draw a spider web, you can decorate this dip! If it’s not Halloween, just skip the decoration and serve the taco dip spiderless.

Ingredients In Halloween Taco Dip

Here’s what you need to make this fun Halloween party dip:

The ingredients need to make a taco dip for halloween

Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

  • Cream Cheese and Sour Cream: Blended together, these two creamy items make a perfectly dippable main layer for this delicious dip.
  • Taco Seasoning: Mix in a packet of taco seasoning with cream cheese and sour cream to give it plenty of taco flavor. You can use my recipe for homemade taco seasoning, or your favorite brand.
  • Refried Beans: Canned refried beans are delicious right out of the can, and are a layer of the dip all on their own.
  • Guacamole: The third creamy layer for our taco dip is guacamole. You can use a large tub of store-bought guac, or make your own easy guacamole from scratch.
  • Shredded Cheese: Shredded cheddar is great, or you can use a Mexican shredded cheese blend.
  • Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and diced onion add color and crunch.
  • Black Olives: Sliced olives are another tasty topping, and we can make a little spider out of olives too!
  • Cilantro: I love fresh cilantro with all types of taco dishes. It makes everything taste bright and fresh.
  • Chips: You’ll want to have plenty of tortilla chips handy so that everyone can dig into your Halloween dip!

How To Make Halloween Taco Dip

four images showing how to make a layered taco dip with beans, cream cheese, and guacamole
  1. Mix the Creamy Layer: In a bowl, combine the cream cheese with sour cream, and mix until combined. Remove ¼ a cup of the mixture and set aside (or put it in a piping bag, you will use this to make the spider web at the end). To the same mixture, add taco seasoning and mix until combined. Set aside.
  2. Layer 1: Spread refried beans into a pie dish. Use a spatula to make them smooth and even.
  3. Layer 2: Cover the bean layer with the seasoned cream cheese mixture. Smooth that layer too.
  4. Layer 3: Next, add the guacamole, and again, use a spatula to make it smooth.

  1. Make a Spider Web: Use a toothpick or a knife to map out your spider web design in the center of the dip, then pipe the reserved cream cheese and sour cream mixture into the shape. Be sure to leave room around the edges of the dish.
  2. Add Cheese: Around the spider web design, place shredded cheese.
  3. Add Final Toppings: On top of the cheese, add tomatoes, onions, shredded lettuce, and black olives. Garnish with fresh cilantro. Serve right away, or cover and store in the fridge until ready to eat.

Tip!

Use a whole olive plus some sliced olives to make a cute little spider for your taco dip! You can also use a scarier looking plastic spider to make the dip a bit spooky if you’d like.

Recipe Tips

  • Let the cream cheese come to room temperature before mixing it with the sour cream. If it’s too cold, you won’t be able to get the mixture smooth.
  • Also, don’t forget to set aside some of the cream cheese and sour cream blend to use at the end to make the spider web decoration.
  • Use your favorite veggies. You can add diced green peppers, sliced jalapenos, sweet corn, or any other taco-style toppings you like!
  • Try a different dish. These ingredients fit perfectly in a 9-inch pie dish, but you can also make this in an 8 or 9-inch square pan. Consider drawing the spider web in a corner rather than in the center.
  • Add more layers. If you use a larger dish, you can add additional layers to the taco dip. Cooked seasoned taco meat is often included in dips like this one. You could also add a full layer of shredded cheese between the beans and cream cheese.

Storing Tips

Store any leftovers in the fridge, covered, for up to two days.

You can make this dip up to a day ahead of time, but you may find that the guacamole browns after a few hours.

What To Serve With Halloween Taco Dip

The traditional dipping vessel for taco dip is tortilla chips! Use your favorites, and be sure you have enough to go around.

You might also like to try this dip with homemade crostini made with French bread.

If you’re interested in making this snack a bit healthier, offer veggie dippers like carrot and celery sticks or sliced bell peppers.

If you’re having a Halloween party, you might be interested in making some other themed treats too. Luckily, you’ll find some tasty and fun Halloween desserts here!

Yes, this Halloween dip has all of the traditional ingredients you’d expect in a 7 layer dip!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 16 ounce can refried beans
  • 16 ounces guacamole homemade or store bought
  • ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese or mexican cheese blend
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes fresh
  • ½ small yellow onion diced
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
  • tortilla chips for serving

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine the cream cheese with sour cream, mix until combined. Remove ¼ a cup of the mixture and set aside (or put it in a pipping bag, you will use this to make the spider web at the end). To the same mixture, add taco seasoning and mix until combined. Set aside.
  • To a pie dish, add a layer of refried beans. Smooth out the top with a spatula.
  • Then add the cream cheese taco mixture, and smooth out the top again.
  • Spread the guacamole carefully on top, and smooth out again. Then use a knife or a toothpick to create a patten for the spider web.
  • Use a piping bag to pipe out the reserved cream cheese mixture in a spider web pattern.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese on the edges of the pie dish to create a circle, top with diced tomatoes, diced onion, sliced black olives, jalapeno, and cilantro.
  • To create a spider, use a whole olive (pitted or unpitted), and then add slices to add legs. Cover and chill under ready to serve. Serve with tortilla chips.
