Why You’ll Love This Recipe
You’ll love making chicken wraps for dinner! Wraps are just a bit fancier than plain old sandwiches, but they’re much easier and faster to make than some other more complicated chicken dishes.
This recipe uses freshly cooked chicken breasts, but the rest of the ingredients are pantry and fridge staples that you probably already have sitting around.
The flavors of this recipe are fresh and simple, and will remind your family of their favorite chicken tacos. This is because the chicken and the sauce are seasoned with taco seasoning, and the toppings, like sour cream, salsa, and cheese are the same ones that go perfectly on tacos.
Crunchy Fritos chips add the perfect finishing touch to these southwest chicken wraps, making them extra delicious and fun to eat.

Ingredients In Southwest Chicken Wraps
Here’s what you need to make these delicious Tex-Mex chicken wrap sandwiches:
- Chicken: To make four wraps you’ll need two large chicken breasts. Cut each of them in half lengthwise to create thin cutlets. If needed, place the cutlets under plastic wrap and pound them out so that they are all evenly thick and will cook at the same rate.
- Tortillas: Choose large tortillas to make this recipe, or look for tortillas labeled as “wraps”. This will help you to fit in all of the yummy ingredients without anything falling out.
- Seasoning: The only seasoning you’ll need to make the chicken for these wraps is taco seasoning! Use your favorite brand, or make your own taco seasoning with my easy recipe.
- Southwest Sauce: Every good wrap recipe includes a delicious sauce. This one is a simple mixture of salsa and sour cream, seasoned with more taco seasoning.
- Toppings: You can adjust these to your own preferences, but I recommend shredded Monterey Jack cheese, crisp lettuce, fresh tomatoes, and canned corn (drained and rinsed).
- Fritos: These crunchy corn chips add a delightfully crispy texture to the wraps! Crush them up a bit before adding them. If you don’t have Fritos, any type of tortilla chips can be substituted.

How To Make Chicken Wraps
- Cook the Chicken: To make the chicken for the wraps, first season it generously on both sides with taco seasoning. Then heat a skillet with oil over medium-high heat, and add the chicken to the pan. Cook on each side for 3-4 minutes, or until the chicken breast cutlets are fully cooked. Allow the chicken to rest while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
Tip!
Avoid slicing the chicken right after you cook it! It’s best to let it rest for a few minutes first, so that the meat will stay juicy.
- Make the Sauce: This tasty southwest sauce is so simple! Stir together sour cream, salsa, and a tablespoon of taco seasoning in a bowl.
- Assemble: To each of the four large tortillas, add the sour cream sauce and spread it over the middle of the wrap. Slice the chicken, and divide it among the wraps next. Then top each with lettuce, shredded cheese, tomato, corn, Fritos chips, and some extra sauce.
- Wrap: Now, wrap up your tortillas like big burritos. Fold the sides of the tortillas inward over the fillings, and tuck the edges in so that nothing falls out. Then, fold the bottom of the tortilla up and over the fillings and roll the wrap away from you. Make sure to tuck in the sides as you go. When you’re finished, press gently on the seam to stick the wrap closed. Slice and serve!
Recipe Tips
- Like it Spicy? Sprinkle the chicken with hot sauce before wrapping up the tortilla wraps. You can also add hot sauce to the sauce if you prefer.
- Add Salt if Needed: Most taco seasonings have plenty of salt in them already, but if yours is homemade or salt-free, season the chicken with salt to taste.
- Try Grilled Chicken: If the weather is cooperating, cook the chicken on your outdoor grill to give it that extra charred flavor.
- Try Different Wraps: These will work perfectly with gluten-free tortillas. You can also skip the tortillas and wrap the fillings with large lettuce leaves to make the recipe lower in carbs.
Storing Tips
Wrap sandwiches are best if they’re enjoyed shortly after making them. But if you have leftovers, wrap them well with plastic wrap and store in the fridge for up to 2 days. The veggies will soften and the tortilla may get a bit soggy, but the wrap will still taste great!
What To Serve With Southwest Chicken Wraps
These wraps are already a full and balanced meal with protein, starch, and vegetables!
If you need something extra, try serving them with your favorite Southwest-inspired side dishes, like Mexican Rice, Crock Pot Pinto Beans, or chips and Homemade Guacamole.
What Else Can I add to Southwest Chicken Wraps?
Anything that you’d add as a topping for tacos or would wrap up in a burrito is fair game here!
Try adding black beans, cilantro lime rice, or pico de gallo.
Can I Season the Chicken for Wraps in Other Ways?
Of course you can! Seasoning the chicken with taco seasoning is quick and effective, but if you have more time to plan, consider marinating the chicken first. My Mexican Chicken Marinade is delicious.
I know that these Southwest Chicken Wraps are a quick and simple dinner recipe that your whole family will enjoy. Add a bag of Fritos to your shopping list this week so that you can make them for dinner ASAP!

Southwest Chicken Wraps
Equipment
Ingredients
- 2 chicken breasts boneless and skinless, sliced lengthwise into 4 cutlets
- 3 tablespoons taco seasoning divided – if your seasoning does not have salt, season the chicken with salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil not extra virgin – or avocado oil
- 2 cups shredded romaine lettuce
- 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese shredded
- 1 cup Frito corn chips
- 1 cup canned corn drained
- ½ cup fresh diced tomatoes
- 4 flour tortilla wraps
For the Sauce
- ½ cup (125 g) sour cream
- ¼ cup salsa
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
Instructions
- Season the chicken cutlets with 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning from both sides.
- In a skillet over medium high heat, heat oil and add the chicken. Cook the chicken for 3-4 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Remove from skillet, and allow to rest on a cutting board.
- To make the sauce, in a bowl, combine sour cream with salsa and taco seasoning. Season with salt if desired.
- Slice the chicken into strips or dice it into bite-sized pieces.
- To assemble the wraps, spread sauce over the flour tortillas. Then add chicken, lettuce, shredded cheese, tomato, corn, Fritos, and extra sauce.
- Fold the sides of the tortilla inward over the fillings. You want to tuck these in so nothing falls out. Then, fold the bottom of the tortilla up and over the fillings and the folded-in sides. Keep rolling the wrap away from you, making sure to tuck in the sides as you go. Finish by pressing down a bit on the seam, where the tortilla edges meet, so it stays closed. Slice in half, and serve with extra sauce on the side if desired.
Notes:
- Like it Spicy? Sprinkle the chicken with hot sauce before wrapping up the tortilla wraps. You can also add hot sauce to the sauce if you prefer.
- Add Salt if Needed: Most taco seasonings have plenty of salt in them already, but if yours is homemade or salt-free, season the chicken with salt to taste.
