These pillowy, fluffy, and buttery rolls are a perfect copycat for Texas Roadhouse Rolls! Slather these with Cinnamon Honey Butter, and you’ll be in love.

Just Like the Ones at the Restaurant
There are a few places where I secretly look forward to the bread more than the meal – Texas Roadhouse is one of them. Their rolls are so soft and buttery, and that cinnamon honey butter always steals the show. I wanted to figure out how to make something similar at home, and after some trial and error, this version finally nailed it.
The dough does need some rising time, but the steps are simple and the ingredients are basic. If you’re short on time, my 30 Minute Bread Rolls are a good backup, but when I want the real deal, I make these.
Ingredient Notes
- Milk: Use warm milk, not hot. Any fat percentage is fine.
- Butter: Adds richness to the dough and keeps the rolls soft when brushed on top.
- Egg: Makes the dough tender and helps bind everything.
- Honey: Sweetens the rolls without making them overly sweet.
- Yeast: Instant yeast is easiest, but active dry yeast also works.
- Flour: Use all-purpose. You may need a bit more when shaping the dough.
- Salt: Balances the honey and brings out the flavor.
Tip!
The ingredient measurements for this are in grams and ml. Using this system will give you the best possible result, as your ingredients will be measured more precisely.
How to Make This Texas Roadhouse Rolls Recipe
- Mix: Use a stand mixer for this part. In a stand mixer bowl, combine the milk, butter, egg, honey and yeast. Using the dough hook attachment, mix for 30 seconds on low speed to combine the ingredients.
- Knead: Add the flour and salt and knead for 3-4 minutes on medium speed. The dough should pull away from the sides of the bowl when it’s ready. Add more flour if needed until the sides of the bowl come out clean.
- First Rise: Using oil or a non-stick spray, grease a bowl and the dough ball, cover, and allow to rise for one hour until the dough doubles in size.
- Roll: Punch the dough down, knead briefly, then roll out into a 1-inch thick rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut: Using a pastry bench scraper/dough cutter or knife, divide the dough into 2 inch square pieces.
- Transfer: Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat, leaving about ½ inch between squares.
- Second Rise: Cover with a towel and allow the rolls to rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake: In a preheated oven, bake the rolls for 15 minutes.
- Brush: Remove from the oven and immediately brush with melted butter and serve with cinnamon honey butter.
Recipe Tips
- Start with scalded milk. To make a yeast roll with milk, it’s important to scald it first in order to kill the milk proteins, which can make the rolls hard and not fluffy. To get the milk to the right temperature, bring it just to a boil on the stove, and then let it cool down until it’s lukewarm.
- Use your favorite yeast. This recipe can be made with either Instant dry yeast or active dry yeast. The recipe is written with instant yeast, but is the same with active, it will just need about 10 minutes to activate with the milk and honey.
Tip!
Add melted butter to the tops of the rolls while they are still warm. This way the butter seeps in and makes them super yummy.

What to Serve with Texas Roadhouse Rolls
Enjoy them for breakfast: Substitute these buttery rolls for the traditional biscuits you’d serve with jam or Sausage Gravy. I think these rolls would make amazing mini breakfast sandwiches too!
Serve with soup: You’ll love a Texas Roadhouse roll (or 2!) on the side of a hot, creamy bowl of soup, like this Broccoli Cheddar Soup, or Zuppa Toscana.
Or with Salad: A healthy salad with a side of amazing bread is one of my favorite lunch or light dinner meals! Enjoy Texas Roadhouse Bread with a Simple Tossed Green Salad or Kale Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette.
Rolls with dinner: Enjoy these soft rolls as intended, as dinner rolls. While I think these would be delicious with almost any entree, I’d especially recommend that you try them along with Easy Roast Chicken, Instant Pot Cube Steak, Oven Beef Stew, or Instant Pot Beef Stew.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! You can add all of the ingredients to your bread machine in the order listed and select the dough setting. Remove the dough when it’s finished, and complete the recipe starting at the step where you cut and form the rolls.
You can freeze unbaked rolls for up to a month. When you’re ready to bake, arrange rolls on a sheet pan, cover, and let thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Then bake as instructed.
You can also partially bake the rolls, until they are cooked through but not yet browned. Freeze them. When ready to serve, bake for just a few minutes at 350°F until they are browned. Top with melted butter before serving.
If your instant yeast is old and you aren’t sure if it’s still active, you can test a bit of it first. Sprinkle some yeast and a pinch of sugar over a bowl of warm water. Give it a stir and let it sit for a few minutes. If the mixture bubbles and the yeast dissolves completely into the water, it’s good! If not, it might be time to buy some fresher yeast.
I just love these fluffy soft rolls that are just like Texas Roadhouse and I know that you will too! Pin this recipe so everyone can enjoy it.

Not as fluffy as I expected.. I must have done something wrong.

I’m sorry to hear that. Possibly the yeast wasn’t fresh? I hope you’ll try again!

If I make these today will they still be good tomorrow for thanksgiving if I leave them sealed in a ziplock all night .
Little Sunny Kitchen says
The rolls will be best if they are fresh, but they will stay for a day or so in a ziplock.

This recipe is definitely a keeper. I made a batch and tested them out on a family get together of eight adults, three preteens, and a toddler and every last one was devoured. The only thing I did differently was I heated the milk to scalding in the microwave, added the honey, butter and salt then stirred until the temp. dropped to 120. I broke the egg up in a small bowl then added all those to my bread machine, then added the flour and put regular active dry yeast on top and let the machine run through a “dough” cycle. Once that was done I proceed as normal from step 4 and they turned out fantastic! Super easy and delicious!
