Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  1. Fun and Easy Halloween Dessert – Jello cups are easy to make, easy to serve, and perfectly festive.
  2. Can Be Made Ahead – Jello can be stored in the fridge for up to a week!
  3. Versatile Recipe – Feel free to change up the flavors, colors, or decorations to make these Jello cups match any occasion.

Key Ingredients

Here’s what you need to make this easy Halloween dessert:

boxes of orange and pineapple jello, a can of whipped cream, and a bowl of candy corn.

Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

  • Jello: Orange and Island Pineapple Jello are the perfect colors for replicating the pattern of candy corn, and they taste delicious together too! Feel free to use lemon instead of pineapple if you prefer.
  • Whipped Cream: The white layer of the candy corn is easily made with a dollop of whipped cream. You can use canned whipped cream, homemade whipped cream, or whipped topping like Cool Whip.
  • Candy Corn: As a fun garnish, add one or more pieces of candy corn to the top of each Jello Cup.
  • Clear Cups: This recipe will make 8 layered jello cups in 5.5-ounce cups.

How To Make Candy Corn Jello Cups

cups half filled with yellow jello. Orange jello is being poured into the cups
  1. Set Up The Cups: Place 8 cups on a baking sheet and set aside.
  2. Make Pineapple Jello: Bring two cups of water to a boil. Remove from the heat and whisk in the pineapple jello, stirring until dissolved. Then stir in 2 cups of cold water. Divide the yellow jello among the cups, filling each about ⅓ full. Discard any extra jello (or add it to a 9th cup… it won’t be perfect, but you can use it as a taste-test subject later)
  3. Chill: Place the cups filled with Pineapple jello in the fridge and chill for 3 hours, or until set.
  4. Make Orange Jello: Once the first layer is set, you can get started on the second. Make the orange Jello the same way you made the pineapple jello, with two cups of boiling water and two cups of cold water. Pour the orange over the yellow, filling the cups all the way to the top.

  1. Chill Again: Place the cups back into the fridge for another 3 hours, or until the jello is fully set.
  2. Serve: Before serving, top the candy cane jello cups with a generous amount of whipped cream, then decorate with candy corn.

Tip!

To keep the plastic cups stable, you can place them inside of a muffin tin rather than a sheet pan. This way nothing can tip over!

Recipe Tips

  • I like to buy disposable plastic cups that come with lids, especially if I’m taking these jello cups to someone else’s house. The lids keep the jello fresh while it’s in the fridge for storage too. Buy the cups on amazon – you’ll get 100 of them, but I’m sure you’ll figure out more fun ways to fill them up!
  • Five to six-ounce cups: In the photos here I’m using cups that are 5.5 ounces. This is a good size portion for kids or adults. You can use larger or smaller cups if you’d like to, just divide the Jello evenly among them.
  • Glass dishes work too! If you don’t need to travel with your candy corn jello cups, you can make them in clear glass dessert dishes instead.
  • Wait to add whipped cream until just before serving. It will melt if you try to add it too soon.
  • Try other fun garnishes, like Halloween sprinkles or candy eyes.
  • Try these for other Fall occasions. The colors of the season in Jello form are welcome at Thanksgiving or football parties too!

Storing Tips

You can store the jello cups, covered and in the fridge for up to 1 week. Again, wait to add the toppings until just before eating them.

FAQs

How long does Jello take to set?

It takes 3-4 hours for Jello to set fully. When layering jello, you want to be sure that each layer has time to chill before adding the next one, or the colors will mix together and ruin the effect.

Can I use Cool Whip instead of whipped cream?

Sure! Cool Whip is delicious with Jello. Use whichever you prefer.

Do candy corn jello cups taste like candy corn?

I don’t think that anything tastes like candy corn, except for candy corn! These cups taste like fruity orange and pineapple jello, with a creamy whipped cream topping.

Everyone loves Jello, and for Halloween, these candy corn jello cups are going to be a huge hit. Don’t forget to Pin the recipe for later!
