Chocolate Frozen Yogurt Bark Recipe Highlights
- The Easiest Frozen Treat to Make – Sure, it can be fun to make homemade ice cream, but it’s time consuming. You can mix up this treat in just a few minutes, and be enjoying once it’s frozen in about 2 hours.
- Double Chocolate – Not only will we be infusing Greek yogurt with cocoa powder, but we’ll also be swirling in melted dark chocolate. I don’t actually believe that there is such a thing as too much chocolate!
- Endless Ways to Customize – I’ll give you some ideas in a bit, but I’m sure you’re already thinking of ways that you can make this chocolate bark even more amazing. Try this recipe with different toppings like nuts, cookies, or fruit.
Ingredients In Chocolate Frozen Yogurt Bark
Here’s what you need to make this tasty frozen treat:
Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
- Greek Yogurt: I’m using vanilla Greek yogurt, which is already sweetened. For a less sugary option, use plain Greek yogurt and add a half teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Heavy Cream: Mixing the cream with the yogurt gives this yogurt bark a smoother, creamier texture, closer to ice cream than if you’d used only Greek yogurt.
- Cocoa Powder: If you can find it, try making this with Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa powder! Otherwise, any good quality cocoa powder will do.
- Sugar: To make this a real treat, it needs to be sweet! We’re adding just a few tablespoons of regular granulated sugar, but you can also use coconut sugar or your favorite sweetener.
- Chocolate Chips: A little bit of melted chocolate chips creates a decadent swirl over this yogurt bark. Use dark chocolate chips or semi-sweet chips.
- Coconut Oil: Just a little bit mixed with the melted chocolate keeps it from setting completely hard.
- Toffee Bits: A yummy addition!
How To Make Chocolate Frozen Yogurt Bark
Tip!
Don’t swirl too much! You want to avoid mixing the chocolate into the yogurt entirely. Just make swirls so that it looks pretty and the chocolate is evenly distributed.
Recipe Tips
- Use a thick style of yogurt. Full fat Greek yogurt is my go-to for making yogurt based frozen treats, but you can substitute with low fat yogurt if you like. If you’d like to use vegan yogurt, be sure that it’s a Greek-style one.
- Parchment paper is your friend. You do not want to be chiseling frozen yogurt bark off of your sheet tray. A single piece of parchment paper will make the bark super easy to remove.
- Be sure that your pan fits in your freezer. If needed, use two smaller baking pans or trays.
- Be patient. Let the bark freeze for at least 2 hours (longer is better) so that it is completely solid before you try to break it into pieces.
Storing Tips
Once frozen, you can store your yogurt bark in a sealed container in the freezer for up to 1 month.
After that, it will still be edible, but you may find that the yogurt bark has gotten icy with time.
Variations and Substitutions
Yogurt – Replace the vanilla greek yogurt with a thick dairy free yogurt such as coconut or almond. You can also use unsweetened yogurt if you prefer.
Heavy Cream – For a dairy free or vegan option, use canned coconut milk or coconut cream!
Sugar – In place of granulated sugar, you can use any type of sweetener that you enjoy. Make it refined sugar-free by using coconut sugar, honey, or maple syrup. You can also leave out the sugar for a slightly less sweet treat.
Toffee Bits – Try chopped pecans, crushed pretzels, cookie crumbs, pretzels, mini chocolate chips, or granola.
Add some nut butter – A couple tablespoons of peanut butter or almond butter would be delicious here! Mix it in with the yogurt, or melt it and drizzle it on along with the chocolate.
Top with fruit – Sliced strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, or bananas will all be tasty with chocolate yogurt.
