Key Ingredients
You only need 2 simple ingredients to make a milkshake, but we’re also decorating the rims of the glasses to make them pretty and festive!
Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
- Ice Cream: You can either use vanilla ice cream, or light green ice cream (we love the Christmas Cookies flavor by Blue Bell Ice Cream). Make sure that the ice cream you’re using is 100% made of dairy.
- Milk: You can either use whole milk, or 2% milk. If you want a creamier milkshake, heavy whipping cream can be used.
- Icing: To rim the glasses, use store-bought canned icing/frosting.
- Sprinkles: Any holiday sprinkles would be cute!
- Food Coloring: Use gel food coloring for the best bright colors.
How To Make Christmas Ice Cream Milkshakes
- Blend: To the jug of a blender, add ice cream, milk, and green food coloring. Blend on low speed until smooth and creamy. If needed, adjust the consistency by adding more milk to the milkshake.
- Rim the Glasses: On the rims of the glasses, spread a small quantity of red or green icing to the edge of the rim and immediately decorate with holiday sprinkles.
- Serve: Pour the milkshake into the rimmed glasses, then garnish with fresh whipped cream and decorate with more sprinkles.
Tip!
Serve the milkshakes immediately so they’re nice and frozen when they’re served. If you let them sit on your counter for a bit, they will melt and become watery (like thick milk). If not serving right away, pop in the freezer, then remove from the freezer 5 minutes before serving for the milkshake to soften.
Recipe Tips
- Allow the ice cream to sit on your counter for 5 minutes before scooping it into the blender. This will soften the ice cream and make it more scoopable.
- When buying ice cream, make sure that it’s 100% made of dairy. There are many frozen treats that are made with vegetable oils and you want to avoid them.
- Place your glasses in the freezer 15 minutes before making the milkshakes, this will help the milkshakes stay cold for longer.
- Do not add ice cubes to your milkshake, they will melt and your milkshake will become too watery.
- For the grown-ups, try mixing up a batch of homemade spiked eggnog this holiday!
FAQs
Just add 2 tablespoons of malt powder to your blender, and blend until smooth.
Yes, it’s very simple! Just add all of the ingredients to a large bowl, and use a rubber spatula to mix until well combined then pour into glasses. You can also use a food processor if you have one.
I’d add anything that does not change the green color of the milkshake, i.e banana, white chocolate chips, or coconut.
I hope that you enjoy making and serving these cute Christmas Milkshakes! I’m wishing you a wonderful holiday season, and I hope you get to make all the fun treats that you want!
