Ingredients In Peach Dump Cake
This is everything you’ll need to make this 5-ingredient Peach Dump Cake:
Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
- Peaches: Canned peaches in heavy syrup work best here. Peaches canned in light syrup or juice won’t thicken enough when they’re baked. Pick up one large can or two smaller cans for this recipe.
- Cake Mix: Yellow cake mix creates the buttery, soft, slightly crispy top layer of this dessert. You can also make this recipe with white cake or vanilla cake mix, but it won’t be quite as tasty!
- Vanilla Extract: Adds an extra layer of rich flavor to the peaches, making this dessert taste a bit more like you made it from scratch.
- Cinnamon and Nutmeg: These sweet spices pair exceptionally well with peaches.
- Butter: The last thing you’ll add to your dump cake is melted unsalted butter. This bakes and blends with the cake mix to make the delicious top layer.
How to Make Peach Dump Cake
Tip!
Sprinkle everything evenly! Since there isn’t any stirring involved here, it’s important that you spread the cake mix and butter evenly over every inch of the peach filling.
Recipe Tips
- Don’t mix everything together! Honestly, the biggest mistake to avoid when making a dump cake is to try and stir the layers together. When it comes to dump cakes, less is more!
- You only need the dry cake mix. Don’t worry about the instructions on the back of the box, you don’t need to add any oil, water, or eggs to it for this recipe.
- Use peaches canned in heavy syrup and not peach pie filling, which will be too thick.
- Try it with fresh peaches. Cook 2 cups of sliced, peeled peaches with ¾ cup of sugar until it comes to a boil. Then use those peaches in the recipe instead of the canned peaches.
- Add some crunch. Top the cake mix with a handful of chopped walnuts or peacans, or sprinkle on ½ cup of old-fashioned oats with the cake mix.
Storing Tips
Store any leftover peach dump cake in an airtight container in the fridge. It will stay fresh for up to 3 days.
Enjoy leftovers cold, let them come to room temperature, or reheat slightly in the microwave before enjoying, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
How to Serve Peach Dump Cake
I absolutely love to serve this slightly warm, with each serving topped with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Peaches and cream have never been so easy and so delicious!
Keep in mind that this is a “scoopable” dessert, and you won’t have much success trying to cut it into neat squares. Just grab a large spoon and scoop the dump cake into bowls!
Depending on how generous you are with the servings, the whole pan will serve between 10 and 12 people.
Recipe FAQs
Can you make dump cake without cake mix?
I think that you probably can, but I haven’t tried it myself. The cake mix is part of what makes this recipe so brilliant and easy, so I’d suggest that you use it.
Is Dump Cake Supposed to Be Mushy?
It is. Dump cake is less like a cake and more like a cobbler, with soft fruit filling topped with a buttery, cakey layer. It is best served with a spoon, and scooped into bowls.
Do Dump Cakes Need to Be Refrigerated?
I do suggest keeping your dump cake in the refrigerator if you aren’t going to enjoy it right away. Keeping it at room temperature will allow it to spoil much more quickly.
How long is peach dump cake good for?
Once baked, you can keep peach dump cake made with cake mix for up to 3 or 4 days.
For longer storage, feel free to freeze individual servings for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight, then enjoy either cold or gently warmed up.
Does this recipe work with other fruits?
It absolutely does! Check out my pineapple dump cake recipe, or replace the peaches with canned cherry pie filling or apple pie filling.
This might be the easiest peach dessert you can make, and it’s so, so good, that everyone will want you to make it again and again. Don’t forget to Pin this post for later!
