Ingredients

  • 2-½ cups candy corn
  • 2 cups mini salted pretzels
  • 1 10.5oz bag muddy buddies
  • 3 cups Halloween M&M's
  • 5 cups fully popped popcorn See notes 1 & 2
  • 2-½ cups Original Chex Mix
  • 1-½ - 2 cups Rolo chocolates
  • 1 cup candy eyes
  • 1 10oz bag vanilla melting chocolate wafers

Instructions

  • In an extra large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients together except for a handful of the candy eyes and the melting chocolate wafers. If you do not have a bowl large enough, work in two batches, combining half of your ingredients.
  • Pour your trail mix onto a large cookie sheet or large party tray. Repeat for the second batch if needed.
  • You can either melt the melting wafers in the microwave or using the double boiler method. For the doubler boiler method: Place all of the melting chocolate wafers into a metal bowl and add 2-3 cups of water to a small/medium stove top pot. Place metal boil over top of the pot and bring the water to boil to create a double boil for your chocolate. Melt the chocolate completely until it’s smooth, fully melted and has no lumps.
  • Using a spoon, drizzle the chocolate over top of the trail mix. Allow the chocolate to drip off of the spoon, onto the trail mix.
  • Garnish with the remaining candy eyes. Allow to set for 15 minutes, then serve.

Notes

  1. Popcorn: You need about 5 cups of fully popped popcorn to make this snack mix. You can either use one 3.29oz bag of microwave popcorn, or make popcorn from ¼ cup of unpopped corn kernels.
  2. Remove Any Kernels: After you pop the popcorn, you need to make sure that you remove all the unpopped kernels in the bag before you add it to the snack mix.
  3. Do not Crowd Your Baking Sheet: You have to spread out the mix and may need to work in 2 batches, just be careful not to overcrowd the pan as you want the melted chocolate to reach all layers (just like nachos and cheese!).
  4. Other Add-ins: There are so many things that you can add to your Halloween Chex mix. Here are some ideas: Roasted and salted peanuts, autumn mix candy corn (Brach's candy), Bugles, Reese's pieces, Cheez-its, mini marshmallows, cheese puffs, caramel corn, animal crackers.
  5. Storing: Store the leftovers in an airtight container or in a Ziploc bag at room temperature for up to 5 days
