Equipment

  • Half sphere silicone mold

Ingredients

  • 7 ounces green candy melts
  • 6 tablespoons white hot chocolate mix
  • 2 tablespoons crushed candy canes
  • 1 teaspoon white sanding sugar
  • 6 large heart sprinkles

Instructions

  • Add chocolate melts to a bowl, and microwave at 50% powder at 30 second increments sitting in between until fully melted. Be careful not to overheat the candy.
  • Take the silicone molds, and spoon about 1 tablespoon of melted candy into each half-sphere. And then with the back of a small spoon, spread the candy around the sphere so that it’s well coated. You need to have a good coating so that the chocolate bombs are not fragile.
  • Place the molds on a wire rack upside down, and chill in the fridge for 15 minutes or until hardened.Remove: Wear gloves not to stain the hot chocolate bombs with your hands, and carefully remove the half spheres from the mold.
  • To half of the half-spheres, add 1 tablespoon of white hot chocolate mix to each, half a teaspoon of crushed candy canes, and a few mini marshmallows.
  • Melt the remaining candy melts, pipe a small amount on the edges of an empty half-sphere then connect it with the corresponding filled half-sphere. Repeat with the remaining. You can smooth out the center seam with a warm spoon.
  • Drizzle the remaining candy melts over the spheres, and decorate with sprinkles and hearts.

Notes

  • Don't overheat the candy: You have to be very careful when you melt the candy in the microwave not to overheat it. If it happens, you can add a small spoon of vegetable shortening and mix that in until the candy has a drizzling consistency.
  • Don't make them too thin! As you spread the melted candy in the mold, make sure that the candy layer is not too thin as your hot chocolate bombs will be too fragile. If after the chocolate sets, you find some weak spots, just melt some candy or chocolate and add it to these spots to "strengthen them" then chill again
  • Wear Gloves: The best way to get clean and tidy hot chocolate bombs is to handle them with food safe gloves. If you do it with your hands, your will get fingerprints all over the bombs.
  • Work Quickly: Remember when if handle the hot chocolate bombs too much with your hands, they will melt from the heat of your hands so you have to work quickly or just make sure not to touch them too much.
  • Do Not Add Sprinkles to the hot chocolate mix, I tried that with red sprinkles and it turns out that they will bleed into the drink.
