Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice or any white long grain rice
  • enough water to cover the rice by ½ inch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  • Presoak the rice cold water for 15-30 minutes. The longer the better. Then drain and rinse the rice.
  • Add vegetable oil to the bottom of the pot, and spread it so it covers the pot very well.
  • Add the rice, salt, followed by water. Add enough water to cover the rice by ½ inch. Give everything a quick stir.
  • Secure the lid and set the vent to SEALING. Select the PRESSURE COOK/MANUAL setting and set the cooking time for 4 minutes at high pressure. The Instant Pot will take around 7-8 minutes to come to pressure and start cooking. When the cooking program ends, naturally release the steam for 10 minutes then quickly release if any steam is left.
  • Carefully remove the lid, and fluff the rice with a fork to serve.

Notes

  • The recommended portion of rice per person is a ½- cup (90-60 grams). I usually do  cup per person.
  • You can skip the oil, and add a piece of butter instead and mix it with the rice, water, and salt.
