Summer is finally here! After so much wind and rain, I am so excited for the warm weather, the beach, picnics, and BBQs!
Let’s talk about all things summertime… Holidays, dining alfresco, picnics, and barbecues. Of course, the past few weeks have been really cloudy/rainy and miserable here in Cardiff, but it looks like summer is finally here and we’re planning a picnic this weekend!
What are your plans for the weekend? I always post Instagram stories about the places that we go to, and the food that we get to eat, so make sure that you’re following me!
PLAN THE PERFECT PICNIC!
- Choose a lovely location! If you ask me, I can have a picnic anywhere and really enjoy it as long as I pack my picnic blanket, good food, and drinks! So it could be your local park, the beach (we go to Barry island near Cardiff!), or if you go hiking then find a cute spot with a view!
- The decor. You can go really simple, or you can create a cosy or a romantic setup. I always bring fresh flowers (when the picnic is planned), a stylish rug to use as a picnic blanket, and beautiful trays, wooden boards, melamine dishes, and cocktail glasses.
- Pack good food! Pack sandwiches, pasta salads, burgers that can be enjoyed cold, muffins, and fresh fruit!
- Sort out the drinks. Are you drinking alcohol? Are you bringing cold refreshments? Don’t forget your coolbox to keep your drinks chilled!
- Activities. Bring board games, books, and a speaker to play music.
- Don’t forget your sunscreen!
MY FAVOURITE SUMMER ITEMS THAT WE HAVE BEEN USING THIS SUMMER
A G&Tea Cocktail Set
How cute is this rainbow tinted glass teapot and cups from Root7? Make delicious tea-infused gin cocktails using this teapot, and enjoy your gin cocktails in style! I would’ve never thought that such thing as a G&Tea cocktail set exists, but since I got it that’s the only way that I like to have my G&T’s now!
One of the best things that you can buy this summer is this Eco Lux Coolbox from Outdoor World Direct that can work as a mini-fridge in your car. It can cool your food and drinks by 18-25 degrees below ambient temperature, and perfect for packing food and drinks for your road trip or a picnic!
It’s 24 liters big and comes with a handy 2.4amp USB port to be charged in the car. It also has a LED light that comes in handy in the evenings.
The bamboo handle is also very useful as you can comfortably carry this coolbox with you.
Melamine bowls, plates, and cups!
I’m in love with these Sara Miller London Portmerion Sets and have been using them for over a month now. The designs are absolutely adorable, and I always use reusable melamine picnicware for outdoor dining. I mean, no one wants to stress over their bowls or plates smashing in the picnic basket, or over the picnic blanket. These are great as they last for ages, they’re almost unbreakable, reusable (we never use disposable) and they add so much colour to your picnic setup!
Food Storage Containers
My all-time favourite brand is Sistema Plastics when it comes to storage containers and products for food on the go! I love their stackable containers that can keep my food fresh for longer, as well as their lunch boxes and water bottles.
All Sistema’s products are made from BPA and phthalate-free plastic and are safe to use in the dishwasher (top rack only), the microwave, fridge, and freezer.
Reusable Water Bottles!
It’s true that a big percentage of Brits still buy bottled water. But for environmental and ethical reasons, we started using reusable water bottles and always make sure that we take them with us rather than buying bottled water. It reduces the use of plastic, helps us stay hydrated and saves us a lot of money.
This Sistema 500ml stainless steel water bottle is currently my favourite and I use every single day! It keeps my water chilled for up to 12 hours, and the design is just great. I owned so many reusable water bottles before this one, and most of them started leaking at some point. The quality of this water bottle is high, and I even take it with me to Festivals and airports!
A Mini Fridge
Even though you can’t take this mini-fridge anywhere with you, a mini fridge is really useful to keep your drinks and summer desserts chilled. When I first saw this fun Rubics cube mini fridge from Husky Lifestyle, I was sold!
You can fill this 43-liter mini fridge with lots of food and drink. It’s capable of holding 40 cans of drinks, and it’s food and dairy safe.
This mini fridge is perfect for people living in small spaces and students. It’s also great for couples and families to use for specific things like drinks and desserts. We currently have it in our kitchen sitting on a countertop, and I love it so much!
A griddle pan and tongs
This reversible griddle and kitchen tongs from ProCook are a must have this summer! I’ve been using this griddle for over a month now, and this cast iron griddle pan never disappoints. The food turns out so perfect either you’re using it on a BBQ or indoor over the gas hob.
It has two sides, one is ridged which gives you that beautiful marks over your food. And the other is flat for hot-plate cooking.
We also love these silicone kitchen tongs, they’re ideal to use on the BBQ or in the kitchen. They’re quite long (34cm) which makes them perfect to reach food that is being cooked over the BBQ or a grill without burning your hands.
A Powerful Bluetooth Speaker
I’m loving my new Hang Around Speaker by Jam Audio! This compact speaker has up to 20 hours of playtime with its 30-metre/100-foot Bluetooth™ range. Rugged and waterproof, the Hang Around speaker can handle the wildest party in town. The amazing dual drivers and bespoke dual passive bass radiators pack an awesome punch for its size. It comes with a built-in cable, and it’s dirt proof and submersible in water up to 1 metre for 30 minutes which makes it perfect to take it outdoors with you!
A Glass Analyser Bathroom Scale
I’ve been following a workout program since the beginning of the summer, and this smart bathroom scale from Salter Housewares made is so easy to track my BMI, muscle mass, body water, bone mass, body fat and of course the weight.
I love the sleek design and that fact that it has a glass surface which makes it a great scales that can stay in the bathroom.
FRUIT AND VEG BOXES
I LOVE Riverford, these guys send out the BEST organic fruit and veg boxes and I’ve been ordering from them for a couple of years now.
You can make a subscription and receive a weekly organic fruit and veg box that is delivered to your doorstep. Filled with organic seasonal ingredients, it will definitely put a smile on your face. Not only you’ll be eating organic produce, but you might also get to try new fruit or veggies that you wouldn’t normally buy.
We received kohlrabi in our previous box, and it was my first time ever trying it. I made kohlrabi chips, and roasted kohlrabi with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Oh, and I also made this amazing carrot top pesto!
Riverford also offer recipe boxes that I really love, you can choose a vegan box if you like and you will receive premeasured ingredients and a recipe card. This allows you to explore new flavours, and try new recipes. It also means less food waste, and honestly, you’ll learn new dishes as you cook using these recipe boxes.
Disclosure: I was gifted these items to feature in the blog post. But all opinions are my own.
