An afternoon tea is a fun and relaxing experience that is usually enjoyed in beautiful surroundings while celebrating special occasions or meeting friends. And if you want to imitate such a gorgeous experience and bring it home, this is the book for you!
This book contains more than eighty deliciously achievable recipes for the perfect afternoon tea. It contains best recipes of famous tasty cakes, pastries, tarts and biscuits. And includes sweet and savoury treats from casual dishes to flamboyant showpieces that suit any occasion and theme. Recipes work for big gatherings and party treats, as well as just nice afternoon snacks.
The book explores the key components of an afternoon tea with specific chapters on macarons and choux, savoury tarts, sandwiches and scones, cakes and sweet tarts, patisserie and biscuits. Each recipe provides information on the number of servings, preparation and cooking times.
Not only that, but the author shares his views on matching teas with different types of food. For example, white tea shouldn’t be served with milk, and ideal to have at the beginning of an afternoon tea. Green tea matches well with mild-flavoured foods and should also be served without milk. However, earthy teas such as Kenyan go along well with savoury snacks and some sweet pastries.
Moreover, it includes tips on how to make a perfect cup of tea. An interesting piece of information that the author shared which I didn’t know is that many top hotels employ a tea sommelier who can guide you through the ceremony of choosing and brewing the perfect cup of tea. This is how important tea is for tea lovers out there!
You will find in this book six themed afternoon tea menus, including a matching tea to serve with each menu: sweet valentine, arabian dream, mother’s day, al fresco summer picnic, autumn comfort and celebration menu.
I’ve marked my favourite recipes and added them to my to-do list. Can’t wait to try them all. Hope you like this review and if you decide to get the book I can only say: happy baking!
